Suunto was founded in 1936 by an enthusiast of the outdoors and orienteering who wanted to design a better compass. Finnish inventor Tuomas Vohlonen wanted to improve on standard magnetic compasses by having steadier needles for better accuracy, and his success pointed everyone looking for a compass in Suunto’s direction. Over the years, Suunto has continued to create and improve upon compasses and performance watches for all sports conditions. Today, Suunto has incorporated tiny computers into its watches to monitor everything from air pressure to heartbeat. Suunto is prided on being a leading designer and manufacturer of training watches, compasses and other sports instruments for running, diving, mountaineering, skiing, sailing and golf.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great altimeter watchReviewed by Harry from Olympia, WA on Sunday, August 4, 2019I used this watch on a 6 day primitive backpack trip in Olympic National Park this past week. The compass stayed true to my regular compass reading whenever I checked it and the altimter was always within 20 feet elevation of my Garmin GPS. The weather was stable and so the barometer wasn't fluctuating. Great watch and easy to set, once you figure it out. I like it better than a full GPS watch, as it doesn't eat up batteries. This replaces a Nike altimeter watch I own.
