  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Chinese knife pretending to be Japanese
Reviewed by LovesKitchenGadgets from North Carolina on Thursday, February 15, 2024
Sasaki goes out of their way to disclose country of origin in their on-line listings and ads. Though it calls it's a Masuta Japanese Chef knife, it is definitively manufactured in China. It is inferior in quality and sharpness compared to staple Japanese brands like Shun and Global. It comes in expensive looking packaging with inserts that desperately want to make you believe you're buying a quality knife. Being an owner of hundreds of quality Japanese and German knives of reputable manufacture who enjoys purchasing various brands just to try out new things, I can say without hesitation that Sasaki knives are pretenders in the global arena of high end knives. Save your money and buy yourself a nice utilitarian Global 7 inch chef knife for $70-80 during a decent sale. A Sasaki is not going to to wow you.
