A few of my fishing buddies that have been fishing much longer than I commented on it and after trying it were surprised that it cost so little for a rell so fantastic. I think I may have helped sell some.

Good reel, smooth, strong drag and has a subtle clicking function for line feed and take-up. I have this on a Ross Essence FC Rod. Managed some 5 lb plus Browns and Rainbows with it. Mine has a sinking tip line as I like it for streamers and sinking flies.

Bottom line: works great doing what it is supposed to do, holding line. However, the drag system is superb. It performed perfectly with fast, heavy-bellied, acrobatic 'bows that would dart and dash and test the metal of fine tippets. Quite pleased.

Excellent features, but performance is somewhat questionableReviewed by Anonymous from Taos, NM on Saturday, November 16, 2013Let my explain my comment above, while this reel offers great value, I have a concern that this reel may be somewhat fragile and not stand up well to grit and grime. I often "dunk" my reel at different times to land fish and change flies in mid-stream. When this reel is dipped into the water, it makes some strange noises. Reviews of the Hardy reel strongly suggest a thorough cleaning to perform properly. Having said all that, I will confess that I love the ease at which the spools can be changed, and the super easy left/right retrieve feature. Happy Fishing!
