5.0 out of 5 stars. Initial Impression
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Tahoe Happy from Tahoe, NV on Thursday, May 19, 2016
On opening the shipping box and inspecting the contents, my impressions are:
1. The tent is well made and the DAC poles appear to be strong enough to withstand high winds.
2. There are two different tent pegs shipped with the tent. This is a pleasant surprise: I was expecting to have to buy snow pegs.
3. The footprint does not ship with the product. I contacted Marmot and was advised that the Milgard model is also the Thor model, It took some searching on the web, but eventually I found a source for the Thor 2P 4S tent footprint. This tent is no longer made by Marmot, so if a footprint is important for your planned use, then make sure you have a source located via the web.
4. The tent, as I expected, is quite heavy, but I plan to share the load with my wife and use the tent as a base camp. i am more comfortable with a "double skin" tent in bad weather than with the light weight "single skin" variety.
5. I live at 7,200 feet above Lake Tahoe. I plan to set the tent up this weekend and leave it up for a few days to see how it performs in the variable weather conditions and temperatures we experience at this time of year. I'll update this review then.
6. Overall impression so far: quality product and a steal at the price I paid.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Update to my review...

Performed like a champ! Took this tent on a trip to the Mojave desert in early spring and we had two nights of huge winds. Chairs were flying and tents were tearing, poles snapping but not this little guy. It did not budge. The wind would come in waves and hit you like a wall but it just seemed to roll right over this tent. The next morning as everyone was picking up the pieces the Midgard stood proud.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. marmot midgard / 2 person four season tent

I have wanted a 4 season two person tent for many years, this tent was on end of summer close out.

Normally $550.00-$600.00. Having owned many Marmot products it quickly caught my attention.

Assembled marmot midgard / 2 person four season tent at a family reunion in a backyard, took about 20 min including rain fly. This was around Aug 18 this year during a 109 deg summer heat wave. I thought it would be way to hot. With all the ventilation I slept comfortably until sunrise.

I’m looking forward to a winter camp out in Washington’s Cascade mountains in January.

I would have rated tent higher if this had been in the mountains with more extreme weather.

Easy to take down & fit everything into nylon draw cord bag.

Best tent I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of tents in 40 years of camping. I don't see myself above the treeline anytime soon but this thing can certainly handle that. Wind is not a problem, Incredibly rigid once all the poles are in place. Grommets at the end straps link up with the poles for a snug fit. Really nice design. The DAC poles are fantastic and while the instructions are a bit sketchy you'll figure it out immediately. Very intuitive set-up. Frankly it's a 1 1/2 person tent but if you're climbing a mountain you're probably used to snuggling with somebody at which point it's perfect. With the fly off and the windows & (both) doors open you'll get plenty of ventilation but if you want to cocoon you can seal this thing up tight and use just the 2 vents to minimize condensation. True double-wall adds that cushion between the ceiling and the fly. Great in cold weather. Nice little window in the front vestibule, which is large, and a rear vestibule as well. Not as big but big enough for boots or a small. Big shout out to STP for this one. The $529 list price tag still on it, and there are people on Amazon trying to charge that. Plus S/H!! Awesome bargain on an awesome 4 season tent. Highly recommend spending the extra $ on this thing as comparable 4 season tents (Hilleberg, Mountain Hardwear, North Face) cost you $700-$800.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Seems as sturdy as they say

Set up my new Midgard to do an inspection when it arrived and it really is a solid tent. Set up was not very difficult and I’m sure will get easier with time but it would be nice if poles and sleeves were color coded as there are lots of different poles, I will do this myself with multicolored nail polish on the ends or poles and tent grommets. It fits my 6 ft 205lb frame just fine but unless I’m spooning my tent mate it’s not going to accommodate two people. I do like the roof curvature of the door which allows you to view the stars as you fall asleep if your not using the rain Fly. Over all I say it’s well worth getting and the Bargan price I got by using my members 25% off coupon was awesome. Can’t wait for some late season camping.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. It's a nice tent...

It's a very nice tent for the money, and the tent appears to be well made. It has eight pockets to keep personal items in. The tent also has a place to hang a gear loft to keep additional items in. I have an MSR gear loft for the tent, and the MSR gear loft fits the tent perfectly. The tent has a hook to hang a lantern (either electric or candle) from, but it states on the tag not to use fire in the tent, so a candle lantern might not be the best choice. I have an electric lantern from Goal Zero, and l like Goal Zero products because they are made well. I set the tent up in the living room and everything fit together nicely! It took me two times to figure out how to assemble the tent. There could be better instructions... The tent has very brief instructions attached to the inside of the stuff sack. Also, the seams inside the tent could be taped... I believe a Thor tent footprint (Marmot) will fit the tent nicely. The tent has a bathtub style floor. I believe for the money that it's a very nice four season tent!

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
