5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Rain Jacket!

A few days after receiving the Filson jacket it was raining and I was told to brush hog about 60 acres. This jacket kept my upper torso dry and with the deep hood my face was well protected. My next test for this jacket will be using it to do a more rigorous job where I sweat. I am hoping its ventilation system is up for the challenge. I love Filson products and this jacket, so far, is a good example of their rugged useful style.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Perfect for Ocean Storms

I learned during my sailing days that saltwater can block the pores in breathable fabrics. I just returned from a couple weeks on the coast experiencing horizontal rain and this coat worked just as I needed--blocked the wind and was unfazed by blowing sand and surf. I also used it to lay down on when I needed to get under my vehicle, and it later cleaned up with just a damp paper towel. This coat is not breathable though, and what worries me more--unusual for a Filson--the stitching is quite weak. I returned the first one which ripped out just unsnapping a pocket. The replacement was better, but there was still some missing stitching near the back pocket opening. Also, this thing really needs hand pockets--the pockets it has are handy, but I can't believe they chose to include rear "game pockets" and left out pockets to keep your hands warm. Still, unique finish, cool-looking canvas lining, and a good looking jacket.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Jacket, Comfortable Fit

This is a great rain jacket and I disagree with the sizing complaints. I am 5'10 athletic build with a 42 inch chest and the large fit me perfectly in the shoulders and arms. It is roomy in the stomach area but you don't want a skin tight fit on a rain jacket. It needs to be able to be a layer and has to breathe. The jacket is a bit stiff at first but breaks in nicely and still looks great even if you smash it in your pack for the day. Would have loved to have side hand pockets but that is a small critique.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Very nice jacket but order a size smaller than normal.

I was very dissapointed to find that a size large is closer to an XL or XXL. The style and quality of the jacket are great.
