4.0 out of 5 stars. Retro rainjacketVerified Buyer Reviewed by PortlandGuy from Portland, OR on Sunday, August 2, 2015Light weight Filson quality jacket for light rain wear. Thin, waxed cotton will hold up till it really pours. Great looking, lots of pockets. The optional (unlined) hood won't provide much protection from the elements; leaks pretty quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Filson jacketVerified Buyer Reviewed by Gone fishin from PA on Monday, July 13, 2015This is a very high quality jacket . It is lightweight and a very comfortable fit. The sleeve length is perfect which is sometimes an issue with me and the body is a tailored fit but not too tight, just right. I am 6ft and 185 lbs. and this jacket fits me very comfortably. I would. Definitely recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Everything is Right OnReviewed by Joe Blow from Oregon on Tuesday, May 12, 2015True to size, XL fit me perfect. I have A LOT of Filson products and this one is as great as all the others. This material is lighter than I expected, like a feather weight oiled canvas, exactly what I needed. I have several oiled heavy weight products but this one will require no breaking in, very flexible and comfortable. I will wear this immediately on a Spring Bear hunt with daily spring showers forecast. Will put many miles on the Quad in the warm rain. The hood mates most excellently, a recommended accessory.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Cool and functionalVerified Buyer Reviewed by Cast iron from Alabama on Friday, May 1, 2015I purchased this light weight jacket for durablility and packablility and plan to use it as an outer layer for those hunts that have just enough weather to warrant something over your favorite shirt or sweater. It folds nicely and easily fits in a light day pack but looked so nice that I wore it to the office with jeans. Only issue was an odor in the material, which faded with a little air and exposure to the elements. I wear a 44 suit coat and the large fit true to size.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Workmanship is excellent; design oddities.Verified Buyer Reviewed by Gentleman Farmer from Northern Virginia on Monday, June 9, 2014I had the exact opposite issue as the other reviewer. The large in navy I ordered was tight at the shoulders and chest and too short in the arms. This is consistent with vintage Filson items I have owned. Nowadays, the fashion is snug-fitting garments but this isn't a suit jacket and I'm not that trendy. I would never have been able to accommodate a sweater underneath and, if I could, I would have needed a tall. The online observations about small hand-warmer pockets are true.
I thought about an XL but decided not because of design decisions. The buttons on the front have shiny backs. If you splay the collar even a little, they catch the light and, therefore, the eye. That's too bad as the cut of the jacket is attractive but maintaining the stand-up collar is limiting. Also, the buttons that attach the optional hood are horn colored. That is fine for khaki, as would be the shiny button backs, but in navy they really stand out. I probably would have kept it in khaki but I already have way too many jackets in that color. Lastly, for an Old School, waxed cotton, made in the USA garment, elastic cord waist adjustment is not on. Heavy weight cotton would have been more appropriate.
I really wanted to like the jacket, as I like Filson and made in the USA in general, but it wasn't working for me. My paradm for this type of jacket is the Fjallraven Reporter Lite I got from STP a number of years ago. I wanted the equivalent in navy but this wasn't it.
I would recommend this in khaki if the design elements don't bother you but I would recommend you size up.

3.0 out of 5 stars. Nice material, but comically large.Reviewed by Henry North from New York on Friday, May 30, 2014The Filon Oregon Trail jacket looks very nice in pictures, and in real life the material seems well made, if a bit cheap looking, but the sizing on this item is so far off that even going a size down wouldn't do the trick. I ordered in my usual size, xxl, and the jacket goes far beyond being loose. It fits like a triple-extra large tall, with very long sleeves, room for both me and my family, and enough extra material to make a decent sail. I'd usually try to order a size down, but since it's so oversized in every direction I don't see the point in that. Aside from the size issue, it looks like a nicely made jacket, with lots of pockets and decent workmanship. If you're very large and tall, this could be great. Assume 2+ sizes higher than indicated.
